1986 P Quarter With Rim Error?

At first I thought this quarter was just damaged then a friend looked at and said that it was mint error because you can still the letters wher it appears to damaged he also thought maybe it was stamped on a nickel In error. I'm looking for more information and opinions.

Yes, post-strike damage. I've come across quarters in similar condition over the years.

PMD, you can see the rim has taken many hits pushing metal onto the face of the coin, if it was stuck on a nickel planchet the coin would be missing details and would be the size of a nickel.

Post mint damage ( PMD), maybe deliberate (too much damage to have occurred naturally). Keep searching!
