I am at a lost to what happened to this Jefferson, is it PMD or something else?

It's what's called a dryer coin. Unfortunately just damaged.

Nice example of a dryer coin, it must have been in there for a long time to have that much damage.
Unfortunately there is no premium for these as they are PMD.

Classic dryer coin--and a good one. Suggest dropping it into a 2x2 as a curiosity.

And went for a long spin.

The drop from the commercial dryers is like someone tapping the edge of the coin with a spoon.

Sometimes they stay in there a long time:


The longer the ride, the more damage to the coin.
