I noticed the pretty coloured toning doesn't show in the slab picture. Is that a TPG slab, or the case it was sold in? I don't see a brand name. What the hey! I just took another look and saw that the colourful coin is dated 2000. Who's this seller trying to pull?

I would buy this one most dealer still would not give you much over spot for this I don't think form what I have seen when selling my extra ASE.But if you want a toned set then go for it but be careful. Because I can't tell what company graded that

I don't recognize the slab and the company is never mentioned. I would not believe the MS70 grade and would question the First Strike designation also. There are a lot of fly-by-night grading companies out there, with more showing up every day. I would pass on this coin. There is a very good chance that it is only going to grade out to MS67 or so and there is not much of a premium for those coins. You could pick one up for under $15.

I am at a loss trying to understand the rush to buy first strike Eagles as they, for the most part, are all high grade coins. It may take a little cherry picking at your favorite dealer to get the coin you desire but at $12 right now I find that more attractive than around $30. Save your money and buy a high grade Eagle for a lot less money!

Just paid $11.50 for a Silver Eagle, and my coin dealer went through about 50 of them before she found the most attractive one -- which she sold me.

I recently purchased my first silver eagle at my pawn shop for 10$ even. and it dont have a single scratch nick or anything on it. a lot better than 30$ for one. plus its from 1988 my birth year :-) I'm not a professional grader nor are my skills at grading very good but I would have to say it is a ms 67 or 68 easily.

Auction is over and the coin has been re-listed at $10 cheaper for starting bid..$19.99.
I've asked the seller... "Can you please tell me which grading company slabed this coin?"
He replied...."Merrick Mint."
I sent a second Email asking... "Sorry, one more quick question. The photos show a 2004 in the slab and the other photo the coin with a bit more colour but is dated 2000. Is there an error?"
I got an answer back within minutes.
"Thank you for your observation. I will have to delete the 2000 pic. as it is 2004 on offer. Obviously these come out each year and there is very little difference. regards, paul"
Sounds like an honest mistake.
Has anyone heard of "Merrick Mint"?

Remember, Toast, "Google is your friend". Merrick Mint - makers of colourized coins, holographicated coins, gold plated coins and other gimmicky things. Their "graded coins" site is curiously devoid of information.
