That's a really nice strike for a 1917-D.
The acetone removed what looked like PVC goop. This was most evident on Liberty's gown. That had to go, or would have continued to harm the surface. The coin shows some surface mottling, but IMHO, not enough to detail it.
I'm at obverse VF-35, reverse EF-40, net VF-35, straight grade.
Again, that's a nice 1917-D.
