NOT my coin. But I am curious what you think--I doubt this one has ever been auctioned, so looking through records won't help. I am learning a lot about inconsistencies with PCGS and other TPG systems. It is a beauty, though!   Edited by Adam590

Incomplete strike, and some rub. I think PCGS said AU-58, but my opinion lies more on the AU-55 side. |

I'll be "that guy" who is going to nitpick this coin despite the fact its so far out of my ability to ever own we can just laugh...
Scratches in the middle of the obverse, and I'm aesthetically struggling with the wonky looking eye of liberty just cause it looks wonky to me.
AU-58 but that's a rad coin!!!! Thanks for letting us drool on it.

I see apparent wear on the turban, hair strand, drapery, and eagle's breast and leg. I don't think it's all due to weak strike. Luster seems mostly absent. Color is very attractive and surfaces look original. AU-53 seems appropriate.
Fabulous coin, of course, regardless of precise grade!

Hard to grade due to light strike, but I agree with AU-55. Also appears to have some light adjustment marks behind Lib's ear. The pressure would really be on the TPG's to get it exactly right in this case, because of the very high implied value. Ultimately, you must learn to grade for yourself, because that is what the successful bidder has to do, if it ever came up for public auction. Personally, I have never been keen on slabbed coins, except to assist in the authentication process. |

PCGS called it AU(58)! I thought I saw a bit more than standard "58 wear" on it, hence my surprise, but this is still a coin I will never own and must admire vicariously through photographs!

PCGS seems to be lenient on these older coins. Additionally, these coins don't look lustrous and well struck from the mint. I see small amounts of wear on the high points, so that is where I got my AU-58 assessment from.
