1972 D Lincoln cent showing cracks going under letters on the reverse and possible the date on the obverse. Could this be caused by a cracked die?

Looks like a small die crack on the reverse. But date area looks like something on the coin on the obverse?

Yeah. I'm not sure what's going on with the obverse. I've searched a lot of pennies and haven't seen that kind of almost marbling effect on them. Certainly very interesting looking.

I agree with you and @coop that you have a small die crack by EPU. The marbling effect seems to be something on the surface rather than a die event.
