@cam, thank you for adding those arrows as it makes it super clear what you are seeing. Those are not typical places to see a die clash, but you should check with an overlay to confirm. More likely is that these are die dents, but I'm interested to see what others think about this.

those look like small circulation hits moving the metal a tiny bit. How could I ignore that huge ugly scratch? it is very unsightly. I see nothing worthy to report that would add extra value here.

An overlay would help but I agree it looks like shifted metal from circulation hits, that huge scratch near the rim is a bit if an eye sore.

I think Dearborn has it correct by calling the issue circulation hits. I too don't see a die clash. Value: 3 cents, the wholesale value of wheaties.  ça va bien aller

On the 7th image, you can see the coin scratch best. You can see the incuse mark on the coin. With that damage, what ever else the coin may have, it is cancelled by the damage on that area. Making it a cull coin.

The blue arrows are where a mint employee got a little too carried away with the die polisher. I have seen this same coin in Unc examples.

Ok, I take it yall don't like arrows on photos. Duly noted. Also, I get that the scratch voids any potential premium, I was simply asking about the other marks. Thanks for the info.

Arrows are OK, but include a side by side without them so we know what you are looking at on the coin coin. Below the '5' looks like die wear. Above northwest of the '5' is not the direction of die wear. If it this is all raised, then it could be a die scratch. But if the metal on any of that area is incuse, it maybe moved metal from coin contact/intentional damage. That is what is going on in my head. If incuse area on the area in question it could be moved metal. Think like a die? The items raised on a coin are incuse on the die. The normal devices on the coin are mirrored on the die. If there is a removal of metal off of the die on the fields, it will show up as a raised area on the coin. If the fields are showing an incuse mark, that is damage to the coin. 99% of incuse marks into a coin are damage to the coin. From the images I can't tell for sure what the fields around the '5' look like. If there is a slight incuse mark on that area, then it is damage. (moved metal that was normally there, but pushed aside by damage) Thus thinking like a die, will help you see if it could be die damage or coin damage. I agree with Makescents that these are die dents or gouges and are raised on the coin.
Something seems to be going on with the top of the 7 as well.
(They aren't hits or recessed.)
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.
