Hi. I have found a 1953 penny that is an odd color. From what I can tell under magnification, the penny does not appear to be painted. Has anyone ever seen this coloring before?

Yes I've seen this--many, many times while going through bags of wheat cents. Some cents pick up a brick-red tone, the result of exposure to an environmental agent. I've come across a few hundred of these over the years.

Copper can turn to many colours, depending on what it has been exposed to.
Nothing unusual.

That is not considered a Red coin in the coin hobby.

to the CCF and If you look through enough wheats you will find a lot of these. As John says don't mistake this as a red coin.
