Hello everyone,

I am trying to find the person that had their coin collection stolen this year between Feb and May. A "friend" of mine showed up with a large quantity of coins. I know they were not his, he had no money. I don't know much about coins but this looked like someone's life's work. I have called several police dept, but none had any reports of this. I am reaching out in hopes of finding the owner.

That is very thoughtful of you to do the right thing. Did your friend have a story? Could it have been an inheritance? That is somewhat common. Maybe a list of the coins would be a good way to start, only if you are 100% sure the coins were stolen.

Many many coins collections are stolen every year, so try to gather as much evidence as you can. Specifics like dates of events, types of coins, and whatever your friend tells you.

I googled local news of stolen coins to see if I brought up anything. I figured since I'm one state away in Indiana it wasn't too far away to have been here. Brought up lots of things but would take a life time going through. Would you mind if I took a screenshot of this and share on Facebook. Also extra question to administers is this allowed? Definitely do not want to do anything wrong here. Just thought it's a really great thing you're doing and would like to offer help if I can

@itc, I'm moving your thread over to the proper subforum so that we get the right eyes on it.

It could be the theft just occurred and they are fencing the collection before a police report is filled.

Hi, I know this guy hasn't inherited coins, he told me he bought them from a guy in Charleston Illinois, he told another friend he got them from an old man in Bethany Illinois. I remember him saying something about a Russian 2893(?) 1/3 or 3 cent piece. I remember seeing Indian heads with the head dress on. the feathers just pointed toward the back. He said he paid $250.00 for them. He said one coun was worth $2600.00. He is a known their. I know he didn't get them legally. I would say they are from Illinois, Cole county, Wayne County White or Jefferson,or somewhere in between. I did contact the police.
