I am new to currency coin collecting. I differentiate currency and coin because I only used to collect military challenge coins during my
23 year military career. I recently started Coin roll hunting and started using Coinstar. During a coin dump I had 3 1970's Kennedy half dollars '73, and (2) '77's rejected. I went to put them back in and I got burned by the coins. I attempted this 3 times. I used a hankerchief to try the 2nd and 3rd time. I ended up keeping the coins. These coins were P mint. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Coinsleuth, the only dealings I have with Coinstar is checking the reject tray when I go to the store. They take a 12% cut of what you put in. Better to roll up your coins and deposit them at your bank.

What do you mean by burned? Like as in a physical burn to your hands?

Yes, physical burn. There was no blistering, but my hand throbbed for about an hour.

I wonder if there something wrong with the machine—might need servicing before it becomes a fire hazard. Did you report it?
