I have a couple really nice Liberty Seated dimes. I noticed there is a variety 1849 S.S. Central America #2 (with Pinch). Question...what is 'pinch'? How can I tell if any of my dimes are 'with pinch'?
I'm still learning, any feedback is appreciated. Cheers.
I believe the "pinch" they are referring to would be a tiny amount of gold dust that was also recovered from the shipwreck (SS Central America salvage event.) You could purchase a coin from the salvage along with a bit of gold dust.
Edit: I should clarify that you could purchase the coin housed in a special holder with the "pinch."

If memory serves me, when gold was discovered in Alaska, the Yukon Territory, small, privately struck gold coins were struck and referred to as "pinch" coins.
