anyone attempt to melt down scrap silver into bars? Friend has a bunch of scrap silver recovered from electric devices and wants it melted down. I see you can buy most of what is needed online, molds, crucible with handle, borax flux etc. The melting point of silver is 1700 F, that my oxy/ac torch should achieve. anyone try it?

You will need the flux to obtain a smooth surface. Molten silver absorbs oxygen from the air and it bubbles out as the poured metal solidifies. It makes for an interesting cratered texture but it's probably not what you're looking for.
