Not all doubling has value unfortunately and so the best way is to first lookup the coin in a book like strike it rich with pocket change 5th edition or the websites to see if a doubled die exists for that coin and will typically show both the image of the doubling plus any additional markers to help confirm it that you should be able to find on the coin itself. The book contains the main ones but not all the obscure ones that may be more difficult to identify for newcomers and/or may not have much value. If at that point you are still not sure if you found it you can always post on this forum to ask prior to sending it for confirmation to one of those sites or a grading company as that costs money to different degrees. Sometimes as mentioned things dont always match up 100% and that may be ok due to the die state, but if say its a 1955 Lincoln cent with doubling I would expect that even a novice would be able to id it using this method https://doubleddie.com/302101.html
