Thanks for the feedback so far from all! I also do not have the reference book. I found my references from this article in
Numismatic News, on a "1868 Proof Mule Quarter Dollar".

There's a PR63 on PCGS that is also missing the lump.
Good catch kbbpll. I also noticed the same on that PR63 and thought it odd but blew it off, focusing on the reverse shield, and the date. When you look at the MS63 and higher images on PCGS, all have similar lathe lines you mention. What I also note are slight die gouges on the obverse, all the higher MS coins show this, only the PR63 shows this marker.

If I owned that PR63, I might be tempted to crack it out.

As for the date, according to Briggs Obv 1, date position 8/9 slopes down left to right, the proof date position 7, slopes upward left to right. Added photos below.

more valuable than the proof so I hope you have one here. Any reason why you havent graded?
@ panzaldi; I wanted to be sure I kind of knew what I have. Getting y'alls input on this was important, plus that means I have to stop spending my money on coins, as I have about 20 I want to send in.

Added photos of date.
