to the CCF Please post a full coin photo along with that detail shot. So far I see strong evidence of a beat up circulated coin - so likely that the mint mark simply took a hit and has been distorted. By 1981 the mintmark was placed on the master hub so opportunities for OMM no longer existed.
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.artToo many hobbies .... too much work .... not enough time.

@oso, first welcome to CCF. Second, as best practice is to only start one thread per coin, I have merged two of your duplicate threads together and locked the third one. I'll also move this over to the correct subforum. As noted by @dear, you seem to be missing some brackets on your photo files which is preventing them from showing properly. I'll try to fix this as well so that folks can focus on answering your question.

At first glance, the mint mark appears to have taken a circulation hit--likely a lateral hit which moved/displaced metal.

Logic tells me that it is not possible for a legitimate coin to have both an "S" and a "D" mintmark, since all "S" coins are minted at the San Francisco mint and all "D" coins are minted at the Denver mint.
Would one you experts please explain to me how this can occur?

This looks like a heavy circulation hit.

1952 was the last year for OMM in the penny series. The 1956 is not clear and has like apparently. The last OMM I know was the quarter in 1954.
At one point was apparently say that the 1980-D Cent it is an OMM but after more analysis was Debunk this hypothesis. I know on YouTube and Facebook circulate this done by a flu flu young guy.

As mentioned above, it is a flattened device due to circulation hits and dings and bangs
