Cup holder coin. Some one lost some soda. Stain or residue on the coin. Spender.

For fun, you might want to try soaking the coin in 100% acetone--will likely dissolve that stuff. A cool experiment, but won't add any value to the coin.

Looks more like dried rust, but for sure this surface discoloration doesn't add to the numismatic value. This one would be a spender for me.

This coin if just covered in gunk. Try an acetone soak over night to see if it comes off.

to the CCF I appreciate your enthusiasm for showing your finds ... keep up the energy as that is the future of our hobby. That said ... you also need to gain knowledge about that is normal and what is truly unusual. Keep learning - we are here to help.

You should have posted this in your original post that you already started. I'll see if a MOD is around to merge them - (I thought I saw Spence around here a few minutes ago...)

The photos do not help me to understand what is going on here. I suspect some additional substance on the surface.

The OIP started this in another topic: http://goccf.com/t/439493 It really needs to be merged with that one please. (I'll send another request...)

It sure looks stained to me.
If the area under LIB(ERTY) and by the nose is recessed (incuse) this could be from some type of acid that dissolved the metal.

Yes the only thing going on here is a lot of rust. Water or acetone will not help.
