Your first picture is the best, it shows a hit from the rim, inwards. Then, metal was pushed towards the letters and created a mound . That is what you are seeing. Just damage from a hit.

On the left stem, it looks like a scratch/cut into the field, that makes the metal form a ball at the end of the scratch. Thus metal was moved that makes it look like something was raised there, but actually is, moved metal.
