After my Dad died I received his Lincoln cents and silver dimes collections.

The Lincoln's are 1909-1970ish mostly good condition a few fine some barely fare, no key dates.

The dimes are 1916-1964 no key dates.

Now my sister wants an estimated value to settle estate. I sold them nearly 10 years ago on Craigslist for about $300 for Lincoln's and $400 for dimes. she questions that value. Any opinions? Please just values no need to get into right and wrong.

I think its tough to give an estimate without seeing the coins & knowing which ones are missing.

For the Lincoln set you say no keys, I am assuming you mean 1909 s vdb & 1909 s & 1914d. But did it include a 1922 d / 1931 s / 1911 s / 1910 s / 1913 s / 1912 s / 1914 s etc. And without knowing that and or condition of the coins I dont think I could personally give an estimate.

As for the dimes I think $1.75-$2 a dime is about fair. Unless there was a 1921 / 1921 d / 1916 d.

Oh dear, estate battles are the worst. And to dredge up something from ten years ago... You have my sympathy, nybird. It seems that from your description you got a fair price for them. It's not like it was a million dollar collection, anyway.

It sounds as if your sister does not believe what you have told her as to what you sold them for. "Tough luck," is what I would say to her, "either accept that or settle for the approximate face value of the lot." About twenty dollars ought to more than cover that!

I'd value them at $2 for each of the dimes, the Lincoln set is worth around $200 based on some ebay completed auctions I pulled up; this is for sets missing just the 09-S, 09-S VDB, 14-D and 31-S.

For anyone giving estimates, remember "I sold them nearly 10 years ago", and it is not known how long before that that the Dad died.

Thanks for your opinions. I can see some details now that I should have included, my apologies if I confused anyone.

Lincoln's were all highly circulated ranging mostly good or less a few newer ones fine. No key dates means no 1909 s vdb, 1914d, 1931 s, 1922 plain. Everything else was there including 1909 s.

All silver dimes were fine none much better. 1916 d was missing.

I sold all the Lincoln's one by one on ebay for about $300 after fees.

Seems like what I got was fair. Hopefully your comments will convince my sister since a physical appraisal is not going to happen. Ed
