I know this isn't a rare coin but should I just hold on to it? It's from my grandpa's collection. He had written on the covering "no MM" which I have no idea what that means? It weighs 5 g. One side is indecent condition but the other side is definitely not that great   |

Common coin in low grade, but priceless as a memento of your grandfather! Keep it for sure.

"No MM" = no mint mark, which is meaningless - the Shield nickels were all minted in Philadelphia. Philadelphia didn't put a P on anything until the 1940s War Nickels. Condition/value wise, the environmental damage is pretty severe. I can only guess what you could get for it, $10-20 maybe? |

Priceless momento from your Grandfather! Doesn't matter if it's a holed cull or a gem proof... it is a part of your family legacy which makes it priceless! Keep it, along with the holder your grandpa had it stored in as a reminder of where it came from. It may not mean much now but it will down the road to either your kids or your grandchildren. Enjoy!

Thats a coin with low collector value but high sentimental value. I'd keep it.

While collecting super-nice specimens of coins...
It is ALWAYS an honor to a grandparent/great aunt or uncle to keep a low-grade coin which must have meant A LOT to them.
Why did they keep them?
(Really, would you spend it?)
I have a few from my dad which are, frankly, poor.
But I'll always keep them.
