Some look harshly cleaned but at first glance nothing screams fake to me.

 But all appear counterfeit to me. The 1896 s could possibly be real but all the others look off. And with all the others appearing counterfeit I doubt there would be a real 1896 s. but weights (not in the 2x2 holders) may help confirm. I've been collecting for a couple years... Favorite Coin's are Standing Liberty quarters, Working on my type set | Coffee, Corvettes, Coins & the CCF what could be better? Edited by Jakes Coins

I will check the weights outside of holders when I get back home this evening and I will post them. I will also try to take some better pictures as well.

They all look genuine to me although a couple of them do look a little harshly cleaned/rubbed. If he was an "older gentleman" he probably knew what he had purchased or received somehow and they weren't circulated much at that time. If you think about it our parents or grandparents collected coins when the coins themselves were not very old or highly collected yet. For example, my Grandmother was born in 1890. Morgans would not have been more than a few years old and some weren't even minted yet. My Mother inherited a few from her and I have those now. The 2x2's have some age and wear to them. I believe that they were previously stapled and then re-stapled. Label makers were invented in the 1930's but, those look new(ish), I believe. Lovely! All the CC dates are fake. Note the same scratch on each reverse eagle's breast. This counterfeit die also has a cast bump above the D in dollar. It appears someone tried to remove the bump with heavy cleaning. Compare your CC coin's reverse to this counterfeit:  Edited by Slider23

The 81CC and 96S are both counterfeits.
The other CC's are DEFINITELY counterfeits.

Fascinating thread. These Morgans need to examined in hand by a reputable expert, as most appear counterfeit. Many also appear to be suspiciously or harshly cleaned/buffed in an attempt to add luster. The gentleman may have been an unwitting victim of an unscrupulous dealer.

Would be interesting to know when these were collected by the original owner. I wrote an article on the current 1881-CC fakes flooding the internet and matched the common reverse to Slider23's image from back in 2018 I believe...
