Hello, I found a 1983 Lincoln Cent with what appears to be extra material in the number 8 in the year. Is this a mint error? If so, is it anything special? Thanks.

Very nice broken posts on that number 8 in the date. This is a nice example, but not sure that there would be a numismatic premium.

base_metal,

Nice. Might be a very small premium. Check the Cud site for an attribution number.

Yes, broken post die chip--nice one too. Might be able to sell it to a collector who lusts for interesting die chips. Perhaps 25-50 cents.

The usual question--what does the reverse look like?

That is a nice die chip that has "grown" into both holes of the 8. Congrats.

These are just die events. These posts break off the die, and the die is continued to be used. Will be continue to be used. So as many as 54% of these could look like that. So there is no premium for these with this die event.
