I have a 1953 uncirculated set in what I thought (think) is OGP cello. or is what I found on eBay the true OGP and the mint didn't start the cello OGP until 1963? I bought my 1964 to 1953 sets way back in 1980 something.... eBay item number: 195447226836here is an image of my 1953 set: (I'm afraid to hear the answer.)

I believe the eBay listing shows the (correct) original government packaging.

Not original ! Put together , probably Telemarketing Gimmick . Mint sets up to 1958 were Double sets in Card Board Holders .

yeah, that is what I thought. way back in 1980-something I bought these, thinking they were OGP. Now I have to rebuy the sets from 1953 to 1962. I had a sinking feeling about these sets - that is why I took them out to have another look at them... Back then, I was in my late teens to early 20's and had no real place to research these out. The coins themselves look great, Maybe I can sell these off to fund getting the real ones.

Thanks for the info. Now I need to go get these 'real' sets. Does the spending on this hobby EVER end?

one clue is the stars on the flag are not arranged in rows and columns as they were on the 48-star flag that was current in 1953

As long as the coins are real and nice, why does it matter if the packaging is real at this point in time. I'm drooling over the Bennie's! I'm sure that lots of buyers would want original packaging but, it's the coin that matters to me most. IMO

Yeah, thanks, that was my original thought when I first started this topic. My only defense is tha tI was in my 20's and there was no internet to check on them then. .. The coins are very nice in appearance - so that is a bonus.
