My 1851 Large Cent has a mysterious O on the reverse. I bought the coin on line from a seller that has over 8k sales with 100% rating. It weighs 10.74g. I am aware that the only montage came from Philadelphia. I did read that some New Orleans mint employees may have minted some coins with "O" mischievously. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you all.     |

Not an O mint mark. Judging by the scrape mark above it, some tool was used to form that donut-shaped anomaly.

  I think I figured it out. I feel this coin has been recycled from the earlier design that shows "1/100" on the reverse. Like 50 years earlier maybe. Is that a possibility ?

Well first off, when submitting images, please try to crop them to the edge of the coin and try to get them a little bit larger. But I cannot see any damage from the obverse that would cause the damage on the reverse.

 Could this be a possibility? Where can I walk in this coin to be authenticated or laughed at?

I can see the second 0 to the right of the obvious 0, the 1 outline to the left. The 1 above the middle 0.
Somebody help please.

Maybe.
But that 0 is definitely there.
Kind of hard to fathom , I know .
It actually takes energy to become involved and absolutely no energy to pawn it off as paraboladoliaxyzmosus

However, if you are bent on sending it in for authentication (or grading) I'd go the ANACS route. They accept direct submissions at most major coin shows. Go to their website for a listing of upcoming shows that they are scheduled to be at.

Thank you for the advice westernsky. I'll take it to get laughed at tomorrow.
Through my cheesy paradoliascope the anomaly seems to be uniform with the surrounding patina.
I wish I had better resolution to upload.
I'll update tomorrow and let you know how fast they through me out of the certified PCGS dealer/appraiser
I know it's mint made (in my inside voice )

@Duke: what coin is that, that you posted just above? the one with the 1 over 100 on it? that is not part on the coin you are presenting. I don't see that or even the wreath details are different than what you show on the original coin.

My first thought was that someone was practicing their added mint mark skills. You can see where the metal was gouged up to make the O. If it was overstruck on a 1/100 cent, it couldn't be on top of the other letters like it is (other than it being the wrong shape and size of course). Like many of these things it's clearly not from the mint, but how, what, why are speculation. People do all kinds of things to coins.
Edit - @Dearborn I took that as just an example of an earlier cent.
