Ok this has to be an error on this quarter right? I dont see how damage could have made the curves so perfect along the edges. I'm new to coin collecting so please forgive me if I ask a bunch of questions.

This is in a heavily damaged quarter and not a mint error.

One of the first things to learn is that when you have a cut, scratch, or divot with a buildup of metal it's almost 100% damage. I call these coins lawnmower coins.
