Can't get on line with my computer. It works fine, just can't connect with WiFi anymore. Seems that I need newer version computer. So hopefully I can get this issue resolved. I'm using my phone now. Not as handy as a computer though.

Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft, so you might have picked up some malware that's interfering with your wifi. Not much you can do about it other than upgrading your OS.

You could use Ethernet cable to connect computer to router as a temporary solution till u figure out the Wi-Fi issue. Then u would be back on line and probably be able to track down the issue

Windows 7. Cool. Find a way to have it slabbed--an emerging rarity.

You can get a decent computer for $300 or so with a current operating system.

They will have to pry windows 7 out of my cold dead hands. I don't want any newer crap that won't support my software that I use every day.

The Wi-Fi radio may have failed. We have had to replace them on some of our older Dell laptops. It is relatively easy to do if you are comfortable opening it up to replace it.

However, a cheaper and easier option would be a USB Wireless adapter. Be careful to get one that still supports Windows 7 (check the specs)...

I miss the days of swapping out carburetors on my '66 Mustang, and too, adjusting the points.

That's because you've been ignoring it for months or years. They did ship one final security patch long after they said they were done.

Even so, if you had purchased the very very very expensive extended support, that ended on January 10, 2023. (Regular support ended January 14, 2020).

It was designed for companies that had a small # of mission-critical machines that couldn't be updated (think hardware controllers for industrial machines). And was priced accordingly. Dividing expensive maintenance teams over a small # of sales.

Microsoft did not expect companies to purchase it to extend the life of fleets of desktops. It made them a lot of money, but the costs of maintaining what was essentially an entirely separate code base finally won out.

I use this computer 12 hours a day, I've ignored nothing. Updates that do not require a restart install automatically, one's that do notify my system tray.

When my Windows Vista machine—later upgraded to XP—was no longer a viable Microsoft product, I converted to Linux Mint. It ran with good stability for almost another decade, until electronics and mechanical failures finally retired it. I wasn't severely limited by software compatibility. More or less anything that Windows can do, Linux can do for free, unless it's something incredibly specific (or brand-specific, like supporting Apple iTunes).

My Commodore 64 still fires up. Can't say the same for my TRS-80 with 4K RAM.
