A recent pick up here that wasn't cheap but I think was a good deal. Regardless of value, the eye appeal was strong enough for me to buy it. The seller keenly noted the letter design transfer but listed this a delamination error. The inverted letters of TES OF (USA) on reverse are clearly visible as well as the design rim. The coin weighs a little light at 11.12g so I'm not sure how that affects the diagnosis but I think I'm calling this correctly. A previously struck fragment clung to the hammer die and was struck into this coin. I am just not sure how the piece was able to barely wrap around to the reverse as well?

Very cool! Nice purchase!

Edit: bummer. Too bad that it's just glue.

Echoing Dearborn's comment, are you quite sure this isn't dried glue that carries the impression of the reverse of another half dollar? The reason I ask is that (1) the shape of the impression is quite odd, (2) your edge shot seems to show what might be a bit of glue sticking up from rim/edge junction, and (3) the die-struck reverse letters seem unaffected where they are cross into the abnormal surface.

I have problems with pictures, but it looks incused to me. I've been wrong on these "glue " pictures before. Between the 1 and the 9 does look like glue. I'm hoping it's good.

I started a return, should be good.

There were some red flags I was ignoring like a slight yellow tint in the area but even with a loupe I was still seeing it as all incuse,, wild.

Let this be a lesson folks.

Might place the glue fragment in a 2x2 and label it Lesson 101. Thanks, Doug.
