From what I can tell from the picture it sure looks like a D, I would not want to venture a guess at the value. I would not let it go until I researched it more. Possibly on the CONECA web site. or some of the other experts on this board. A larger picture would definitely be helpful. Best of luck and Good Find

I agree. But it does look like a D to me as well. Not sure what it is or what it could be, but I am sure others might!

I am not sure what it is(better pics are needed) but I can tell you that it definitely is not an actual D- it is physically impossible to substitute a letter in the design.

This is an absolute given, and must be accepted as fact. Having said that, there are a few things which could make the B look like a D - grease fills, foreign objects in the die (remember, on the die this is a hole, not a bump), perhaps some enterprising post-mint entrepreneur.

It would be interesting to see closeups if possible, but I understand that isn't always possible. Go over the area minutely with a magnifier, comparing it to a "whole" nickel and looking for little details that might help to explain how the one came to be the other.

Breen's Encyclopedia calls it very scarce. caused by a die heavily reground "stoned" to remove clashmarks. discovered in 11973

, to the community.
That really does look like a D to me. I would like to see a close up of the whole motto.

Thanks everyone.Excessive polishing on the die of the "B" would explain the missing bar.I wonder how many were minted that way ?.

That is a new one on me. Sure it hasn't been added on post-mint? If not, it could be a great find.

This is not a new one to me. I think they are somewhat scarce, but probably could be found if they were looked for more closely.
I have not taken the time to look very hard for them.
I do not have one, wish I did, it is one of the remaining Jefferson's I would like to add to my collection of oddballs.
I think it might be worth anywhere between $7.00 and $22.00
I have a search on ebay for keywords Jefferson, 1964, and pluriDus for the past year and none have shown up.
If you want to be rid of this coin, let me know please?

The 1964 Jefferson nickel with the motto E PLURIDUS UNUM.

Most people are familiar with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM
on U.S. coins, even though many don't know what it means
(it's a Latin phrase meaning "Out of many, one," and
signifies that out of my states, one nation has been forged
in this country). But often, familiarity breeds
inattentiveness. That's why many collectors didn't notice at
first when 1964-D Jefferson nickels appeared with PLURIBUS
misspelled as PLURIDUS. Heavy polishing of one or more dies
had caused the center of the letter "B" to become
obliterated, leading to this interesting error.
This isn't a high-priced rarity, but it does bring a
modest premium. And it underscores the importance of paying
close attention to the coins you find in change: Many of the
pieces that command premium value will do so because of just
this kind of detail. So you'll need a sharp pair of eyes--and
a magnifying glass would be helpful, too. An inexpensive
glass with 5-power magnification would be fine.

It has been known for awhile and it is the result of overpolishing. In some cases though coins have been "helped" to make the resemblance to a D even stronger. Personally, to me it is just a die polishing "error" and of very minor interest. It isn't a variety, it isn't an error, it is just a late die state of a die that should have been retired.
