Looks to be Die Deterioration but it is only affecting part of the die(s). So I'm guessing some sort of mechanical mishap rather than die wear issues. mikediamond Pillar of the Community United States 2655 Posts	Posted 03/11/2025 5:56 pm I would say it's a minor case of rim-restricted design duplication characterized by a low bounce and a slide of the hammer die after it reached the lowest point of its downstroke. You see this effect on 1982 quarter dollars and some 1979 dimes. Error coin writer and researcher. Report this Post to the Staff
