I seem to remember a post by coppercoins, I think, where he stated that he has never found a small date 1960 Lincoln in circulation. I know I have not found one and am curious how many have? I have read that the mintage estimate for the small date is about 2 million and obviously this is causing the scarcity. However, when you consider a minting of a few hundred thousand for 1998 and 2000 WAMs, and finding them is not that hard, it would seem that you would find the occasional 1960 SD in circulation.
And, with a mintage of about 2 mil, would it not seem likely that the 1960 SD would start realizing some price increase as we go forward?

I've found a couple P mint small dates....guess I'm lucky. I've found many D mint small dates, they are 50% of the population or so it seems. The proof small date is pretty tough and slightly pricey. Out of all of them, I'd say the proof small date is best poised for price escalation.

I too have found a couple of '60d small dates through the years. I may even find a '60 small date when I go through my copper cent hoard I've been saving since the late 80's. As to why they're not as commonly found as WAMS, I would have to say due to 49 years of collectors! (and copper cent hoarders)

As a youngster I sent $2.10 to the mint every year for a proof set. In 1960 I received a 1960 small date proof set. In a few years the value of that shot up to over $50. Now 40 years later they're priced at around $30. So much for holding onto good coins.

It's that way with alot of issues. The alleged rarity will drive demand up, which results in the rise of prices. Eventually prices stabilize and with luck will continue to rise through the years. This is why I don't get excited about prices rising immediately after a coin is issued. I don't plan on selling something I just acquired for my collection (In fact I have a hard time parting with anything).

I didn't even know about this coin. I will have to start looking at 1960s more closely. Aside from 1960 and the 1982 zinc and coppers, are there other small date pennies?

I find one or two 60d small dates every week, and at this point have just over a roll of them, but have never found a 1960 no MM.

The large date 1974 has a wider cross bar on the 4 than a small date.

A friend found a jar of pennies stashed under a house he had relocated a few years back.. How the jar remained under that house, as it was picked up and put on rails.. Dropped twice and trucked 2 miles across cow pasture and finally placed on a the pad and leveled, I will never know.. It is amazing that the pennies didn't litter the path of the move.. This jar of pennies has started the coin searching fever in me.. The oldest of the dates is 1959 and the majority of the dates are 1979 80 81 82. 1982 is the oldest in the lot.. The 80 81 82 are mostly red uncirculated or would that be AU? To get to the subject. I have been searching the pennies and I have noticed that there is a large and small date on the 1982D's. The lettering of the whole penny is small or large. Has any one seen the same thing? Like I said I am new to this hobby.. Been doing lots of reading...!!
It's all good tiggerlilly64

Yes, large and small dates are known for 1960PD, 1970S, 1974PDS, and 1982PD. The 1960P small date is quite uncommon and the 1970S small date is the key of the Lincoln Memorials. For 1982, there are actually seven different Lincolns when you count the combination of mint marks, small and large dates, and bronze and zinc cents.
