Hoping this extra angle at this topic may help. Attaching a good image of the obverse and reverse of this ASE, as well as the US Mint description of the finishes as applied to the different areas.

Press Releases
United States Mint Opens Sales for the 2013 American Eagle West Point Two-Coin Silver Set on May 9
April 25, 2013
WASHINGTON — The United States Mint today announced the opening of sales for the 2013 American Eagle West Point Two-Coin Silver Set. The set commemorates the 75th anniversary of the edifice that houses the United States Mint facility at West Point.

The United States Mint has established a four-week ordering window beginning May 9, 2013, at noon (ET) and ending June 6, 2013, at 5 p.m. (ET). Orders will begin shipping in mid- to late June. There is no household order limit, and customer demand will determine the number of sets produced.

The 2013 American Eagle West Point Two-Coin Silver Set contains one silver "reverse" proof quality coin and one silver "enhanced" uncirculated quality coin. On the reverse proof coin, the mirror-like background finish of a traditional proof coin is applied to the design elements, achieving a magnificent contrast.

****On the obverse (heads side) of the enhanced uncirculated coin, the mountains, red stripes, and blue parts of the American flag; the year; and Liberty's sandals have an uncirculated finish. The remaining elements and lettering on the obverse have a heavy frosted finish. On its reverse (tails side), the ribbon in the eagle's beak, arrows, olive branch, alternating stripes in the shield, and the border around the shield have an uncirculated finish. The lettering and other design elements on the reverse have a heavy frosted finish. The fields on both sides of the coin have a new light frosted finish. All these enhancements - unique to this coin - add sharp definition to the designs.

I'm skipping to the reverse, as I am relatively positive that the obverse will not differ significantly from 2013.
The reverse will need to be different obviously, due to the totally different design.
It's hard to say how they'll utilize the enhancement application. On the eagle, I could see a proof beak with the "whitest" finish, the blast white reverse proof look, on the eagles head. I didn't think they'd try using differing finishes on the eagles body, possibly the talons. The branch it is carrying I bet will be something contrasting it's surroundings. I could also see "United States of America" being a different finish than the rest of the lettering.

Very interesting

Thanks, I know this topic is getting a lot of interest.
To me the Mint site is revealing nothing, it is not showing any enhancements in those images. I feel it will be very similar to the 2013 design, and also you can't count it as a new finish when they are calling it by the same name.

Just going through my 2013 EU vs 2019 ERP ASEs comparisons.
I hate to say the Mint has their own description wrong, but that's what I have to say.
Here is what the Mint says about the obverse of the 2013W:
"On the obverse (heads side) of the enhanced uncirculated coin, the mountains, red stripes, and blue parts of the American flag; the year; and Liberty's sandals have an uncirculated finish. The remaining elements and lettering on the obverse have a heavy frosted finish".
CORRECTLY STATED:
the mountains, red stripes, and blue parts of the American flag; the year; and Liberty's sandals have a PROOF finish. The remaining elements and lettering on the obverse have a heavy frosted finish.
They also state the same on the reverse, everyone they say it heavily frosted is actually proof.
The field they do point out are a light frosted type finish, not exactly proof or Uncirculated type finish.
I hope the images help.
On the 2019, I can definitely see the S and W are identical finishes.
Is it hard to exactly compare them. But someone said the elements are reverse from the 2013 enhancements, and that's nearly true.
The date is the proof finish on both, on the 2013 the rest of the lettering is matte finished, the lettering is all proof on the 2019.
On the 2013 the sandals themselves are proof and the actual feet are matte. The 2019 is a bit simpler with the feet and sandals entirely proof finish, so fancier feet in the 2013.
The rest of the 2019 design has the typical heavy frosted field you'd expect on the reverse proof. The elements use the proof finish where the 2013 had the heavily frosted, and used light frosted (as used in the field of 2013) where the 2013 had proof. So they just sort of mixed up the finishes a little, but not exactly the same as saying the finishes were simply reversed in 2019.
The same situation exists on the reverse, where the fields changed to heavy frost from the light frost, and the devices again proof changed to light frost and heavy frost went to proof.
Hope this all makes sense. I'm putting them back to bed now.

Awesome pictures Gilly,

Personally I enjoy them All. I especially enjoy the 2019- S and W Reverse Proofs and Always thought these would become more valuable than they are, In terms of a Special finish.

The 2013-W Enhanced Uncirculated version is a Smash hit, using the frosted, Proof and Uncirculated finishes on One coin, With colors just Spectacular......

The 2013-W Enhanced Uncirculated coin Will have Another Enhanced Uncirculated Member Real Soon.

very nice ASEs! I hope to get these as well.

Thank you much!
Someone just collecting the finishes would be well served to just get the W. It's a bear being a completist like I am and needing both. To that end I have both the usm and RCM sets with the W in it. Just to pile on a little further.

Gilly,

I always thought the 2019 Pride of Two Nations sets were Unique,2 Outstanding Members in that set,....

They did not stand a chance with The 2019-S Enhanced Reverse Proof being released, sort of.

Ordered Both Sets Too.....

Regardless of the "set", my point is that in a side by side comparison, other than of course the mint mark, the ASEs are identical. I like the set too.
Oh, other than the mint mark AND production numbers, which of course is the primary "driver" for the cost difference. If you didn't get the S on order day, you got in to the 4 digit numbers right away for just an OGP example.
I never really looked at it from a "who minted it better?" standpoint. They both look very nice, I spent a good deal of time yesterday examining them both, plus the 2013.

To sum up the finishes:
In 2013 the Mint seemed to come up with what even the Mint stated was a new light frosted finish, which was used in the field of the Enhanced Uncirculated. The devices and lettering used "heavily frosted" and proof finishes to enhance the design ("heavily frosted" is what was used in prior years Reverse Proof designs).
In the 2 2019 ERP ASEs, to be it looks like they used these same 3 finishes. Generally the fields were like the typical Reverse Proof designs, they used the heavily frosted fields. But then the elements used the lightly frosted finish, (used in the field of the 2013 design) and the proof finish. Generally speaking, what was proof on the 2013 design was lightly frosted on the 2019 design, and what was heavily frosted on the 2013 was proof finish. Again with slight modifications, especially the feet and sandals being more detailed on the 2013.
The nomenclature "Enhanced Uncirculated" is not 100% accurate, but hard to think of what else they could have called it, as the field of the Enhanced Uncirculated isn't really Uncirculated, if you compare it to an actual Uncirculated "burnished" ASE, it's the unique light frost finish. Maybe I'll break out some of these again and do a video.

I have never understood why they called it "Enhanced Uncirculated"

If you just look at the 2013 EUC you would think the field was like a proof

But if you compare the 2013 proof ASE you can see that the fields look different but not by much

I also don't understand why the mint choose to use the description of "Enhanced Uncirculated" to describe 3 very different finishes

There might be a 4th version of it because for the pictures I have seen, the 2017 American Liberty Enh UC medal does not match any of the other 3

I will know for sure when I receive the set I ordered yesterday.

I don't think they could figure out another name to call it that wasn't "klutzy" or even more confusing.
I'm sure you are good on the "Enhanced" part of the name.

I spent a lot of magnifying glass time on them yesterday, and many times in the past. It's not proof, it's not really like a typical Uncirculated either, and not like the matte field on a reverse proof either. Kind of in between proof and Uncirculated, it the Mint calls it "lightly frosted". To be sure, it's a unique finish.

The different finishes are used to enhance the design. Maybe not on these Kennedy halfs you bring up where you only see 2 finishes. Beautiful coins, I had the set you're referring to, sold them when I needed ASE money.
But in reference to the EU and ERP ASE versions. To enhance the design, they wanted to use 2 different finishes on the design and a separate finish on the field. So it's really just swapping finishes around and using the finish used on the field as the starting point. But again "Uncirculated" is actually the "new" or different finish that the Mint calls "lightly frosted", and the design part (elements) are both proof and heavily frosted.
On the ERP, it generally looks like a reverse proof with a heavily frosted field, and the design elements use proof and lightly frosted finishes to enhance the elements.

Yes, we don't have long to wait to get them in hand.
