1905 Indian Head Cent With "g.e.c" Stamp - Any Ideas?

Madmax_br5 New Member United States 1 Posts	Posted 08/14/2009 5:05 pm Hello everyone! This is my first post so first off let me say welcome. I'm in the process of moving, so today while packing boxes I stumbled across my old coin collection from when I was a young child. I was browsing through my Indian Head cents when I came across a 1905 specimen with a very large "G.E.C" stamped onto both sides of the coin. I tried googling, and the best I can come up with is that it probably stands for "General Electric Corporation." I doubt it's related to the GEC rating system since why would it be stamped onto the coin? Anyone know anything about this? Report this Post to the Staff

Throughout history people have marked coins with initials and other markings. We may never know who did this to your coin or why. I have a Buffalo nickel counterstamped with a GLT. I keep it with my other damaged coins that I want to save. No significant value...just a curiosity. Report this Post to the Staff
DVCollector Bedrock of the Community United States 10045 Posts	Posted 08/14/2009 5:56 pm I think there is collector interest for counterstamped IHCs, particularly if they're documented to be done around the Civil War. Whatever the year, it's a cool thing to have because it was probably done while IHCs were in circulation. Report this Post to the Staff
