Nice finds w/ the 2009 and 1954 Roosevelt dimes. Mintage numbers don't really suggest keeping anything beyond 2009.

2007-P 391,000,000
2007-D 624,500,000
2008-P 413,000,000
2008-D 637,500,000
2009-P 96,500,000
2009-D 49,500,000
2010-P 557,000,000
2010-D 562,000,000
2011-P 748,000,000
2011-D 754,000,000
2012-P 808,000,000
2012-D 868,000,000
2013-P 1,086,500,000
2013-D 1,025,500,000

As you can see from the mintages above by halfamind, there's ZERO reason to keep 2010 or 2011 Dimes. The only ones that are low mintage (relative to other dimes) are the 2009 dated coins from both mints.

1969 and 1971 Philly dimes are also somewhat difficult to pull and you can probably get a premium on eBay for circulated rolls. Otherwise, the only things worth collecting in terms of the post-silver era dimes are the oddities like the 1982 no mint mark, high grade 1982 and 1983 coins from both mints (since they didn't make mint sets those years), the 1996-W coin, certain BU coins that go for a premium like 1986 P&D and 1997-P, and any S-mint proofs which may have found their way into circulation.

Ok thank you for that info. I do remember reading about the 2009 coins and kept what I found. Didnt know about 7. That's for all coins I would presume right? I got the 1996 W Dime. 1886 and 1997 P I didn't know about. Glad I posted here. Learned me something.

Yup. The dimes, nickels, and most of the quarters from that year are very tough pulls. Even the cents are not easy, particularly the P minted ones. Funny, the "easiest" 2009 coins to find for many people seem to be NIFC half dollars.

You're welcome!

In terms of the modern BU coins to look for, a price guide which lists prices for BU rolls can be a lot more helpful than anything else because then you can prorate prices for them on a per coin basis. Publications such as Coins Magazine and Numismatic News regularly include prices for full rolls of BU coins from 1934 to date.

The interesting thing is that there can be odd discrepancies between denominations in terms of the years and mints which hold a premium for BU coins despite "normal" mintages. For example, BU 1997-P dimes and 1997-D nickels carry quite a big premium. BU 1997-P nickels and 1997-D dimes also carry one, but it is much smaller.

Went through 1,000 dimes on Wednesday, only thing of note was a lone 2009-D...

On Friday, bought 1,700 dimes and had much better luck... a silver 1948-D ender, a shiny 2009-P, and 3 2009-Ds!

Dimes are so frequently my forgotten bank rolls - lots of fun to hunt through the larger coins or find an old penny worth something. Now that you mention it though, I have found most silver coins in dime rolls. Glad to see this find!
