The top image is upside down. Nice pix, by the way. The "bone"-appearing object in the top pic is actually the numeral "1" and should be above the symbol ("sen"). Also, many Japanese coins of this period included an image of a chrysanthemum, which appears at the top and bottom of the obverse side of this coin.
I agree - this coin displays very nice toning and is an excellent example of why I tend to prefer bronze coins over other metal, at least for appearance.
