Can There Be A 1942 S Double Date Dime?

Diane Valued Member United States 67 Posts	Posted 06/28/2006 10:32 am Looking through my father's coins, I find one whose label I can't understand. It says "1942 S double date." The Red Book doesn't show any such coin. There's a 42 D 2 over 1, but this is 42 S, not 42 D. And I can't see anything unusual about the date on the coin anyway. However, because my father was so extremely methodical about his coins, all neatly labeled (with no other mistakes I can detect so far), I hesitate to discount it as an error. At least not without first checking with more knowledgeable collectors. I've scanned the obverse really large here so that you can get a good look at the date. What do you think? I know they used a small s (10%) and a large S (90%) that year. Heres a link to Coneca.
