Thin 1944 Cent - Coin Community Forum

westnlas Valued Member United States 85 Posts	Posted 04/13/2010 10:07 pm I found this ultra thin 1944 cent sorting through a couple of coffee cans of coins left by my mom back in 1980. She tossed these aside from a concession she had in the late 50's early 60's. I think this coin may have stamped on a thin planchet ? There is no one around here that knows hardly anything about coins at all to verify this. What do you guys think ? I weighed it at 1.2 grams and it is only 3/128 in thick. Almost all the LWC's like this are from the 40's. Certain folks were trying to use these as a dime in parking meters. It's not an error. I have a couple laying around somewhere. Like I said, it is only 1.2 grams and less than 1/2 the thickness of a normal cent. But it is something to hang on to anyway. Thanks again Report this Post to the Staff

It hasn't been touched since 1981 when I put the box in storage. I just took it out this year to sort because I have the time and my eyes are not gone yet. LOL Report this Post to the Staff
