CCF family ...... I'm hoping this thread does not spiral out of control and result in hurt feelings.

Keep in mind that we are all here to support each other .... not throw darts ..... enough said I hope.

The OP claims to have an aluminum cent .... 1974 even .... and so far we have seen a photo of the reverse of an unknown Lincoln Memorial cent. Perhaps there is a photo of the obverse to come yet?

For oblakava ..... keep in mind that the forum family has addressed the topic of 1974 aluminum cents plenty of times ... each and every one of them turining out to be a bust ..... so if you truly feel you have a case then make it with clean photos of both sides of the coin and an accurate weight.

Just in case you may want to try finding a coin show and take it there for an inspection. I wouldn't recommend a coin store or sending it anywhere for authentication. Remember they used to laugh at all kinds of people for all kinds of possible stuff. And many times people stopped when they found out something was real.
You have that coin and if it is real, not sure if you could really show it to the wrong people or not. I heard somewhere that it was supposed to be illigal to own them but not sure or know why. Sort of like many rumors of odd or rare coins. You really never know.

I may be mistaken, but that reverse pic looks like it MIGHT be a Close AM reverse, but it's hard to tell.

If it is, then this is of course, a hoax.

It should be a CAM if you read the original post the OP said it was a 1998 NOT a 1974. Later The OP mentioned in apparent jest it was a 74.

For the OP there were no aluminium cents made in 1998 your coin was most likely a science experiment there are several on you tube (if it was done with the zinc oxide a little heat will turn it a gold color). Other possibilities are it was wrapped in tin foil and the aluminium from the foil leached onto the coin. I am sure the experts would be able to explain it a lot better than I can. How ever better pictures are a must and both the obverse and reverse close up would be required. If it is not genuine (and I am sure it isn't) don't feel bad. I have found 3 1943 copper cents that are worth exactly 1 cent each (they all stick to the magnet).

To make a fake looking aluminum, just use the black and white tool in a photo program. Like mine?

Might be that latest Magnetic Copper being released by the Metal Police in the Government.
Oddly enough many, many and most items could be made to be magnetic. For example one of the most powerful magnets is called AlNiCo. It is completely non Ferrous (Iron) If you look up magnetism anywhere you would find that even some non metals have been used for magnetism.

sheesh you guys are critical. this isn't a prank, and as I already said I'm not quite sre it's an aluminum penny, AND it's definitely not 1974. it's a 1998, so please read before making snide remarks.

secondly, that was the first coin picture I've taken and posted. I've taken pics of silver eagles, but they're much bigger, obviously.
I'm going to try some more, but I never realized that it could be so difficult to take a good pic of a coin.

anyway, I figure that the pic that I put up, regardless of it's quality, will give you a good idea of the color of the coin. it's a little duller than that, but the color itself is pretty accurate.
