What coins or sets do you think the US Mint will release in the future that will cause the excitement / hysteria like that which we are seeing for the 20th Century Silver Eagle 3 piece set?

Probably something freaky - maybe they can make only the hair proof on a coin or maybe proof eyes only

I personally am not too impressed. First thing, the die masters or creators can't think of anything new and now they had to recycle old designs. What's next? Morgan dollars in all precious metals?

I don't really think we will see much next year unless there the mint has a surprise we have not heard about yet. Unless of course the new Pres.dollar take off I don't think they will but I ma planing on collecting them. I think that the next big thing will be in 2009 when they do the special Lincoln coins and Penny's just my opinion. I don't think the commems will be hot sellers next year. Just my opinions my be right may be wrong.

I even hate to bring up this subject in case a Mint rep is watching but just when do you think they will start the same thing with coins as with stamps. Want to see a Elvis coin? How about a Maryilym Monroe coin? Could have a 57 Chevy coin. Diane Ross, The Platters or better yet an anniversary coin for the Rolling Stones.

Its been 10 years since the start of the platinum eagles. The way the mint works, they will probably introduce reverse proofs for the 10th anniversary of the platinum eagles. Instead of charging $2,600 for the gold set, expect it to be around $4,600 or more for the platinum set. Who knows, after that they may make a reverse silver proof set for the State Quarters. Either way, the mint is getting way out of hand with all these options.

Don't forget the first ladies gold bullion coins start next year. I can't believe that I have to wait until 2011 to get the Abigail Fillmore!

Initially the buffalos were supposed to be in 1/10, 1/25, 1/2 and one ounce coins. Now they seem to be balking on the issue which will turn a lot of smaller collectors away. Personally I like the buffalo and the .9999 idea must better than the current St. Gaudens design currently being used. If I want St. Gaudens I prefer the old classics but at turn of the century prices. Many of us would like to continue to buy a little gold but one ounce prices are pretty commanding for many collectors operating on a smaller coin budget. The smaller size coins would help alleviate that problem.

If the mint do make a decision about making 1/10 gold buffalo bullion I would buy the proofs since they would be in my price range
