It was likely exposed to something acidic that ate it's way through the top layer. But the edge looks like it took a hit. It is a curiousity. Hang on, though. Without being able to get a good look at the border of where it transitions from copper to nickel it is very hard to make a fair judgement Report this Post to the Staff
Aaron P New Member United States 5 Posts	Posted 12/06/2014 03:00 am If this helps on the back of the coin directly were the front spot is, next to the peach is kind of discolerd, coin goes from full clad back to copper in the middle of the reeded edge,then back to clad for the front, but in that spot the copper shows from middle all the way to the fronside lip of the coin and you see "ameri" I'll try to get closer pics but? coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 12/06/2014 12:23 pm Acid dipped. If it were a cladding error the devices would be the normal size and full. Note on the lower image of Bio's partial clad quarter, the devices where the cladding is missing are strong. On the upper image where the cladding fell off after the strike, you see weakness in that area. Also the edge of the coin reeding would be normal looking, not removed as in the dropped acid coin.
