Hello all,

I found this 1982 P Kennedy half and just wanted some help confirming that I am correct in thinking that it is the version with no initials.

Thanks,

That is incorrect. All Kennedy halves should have the "FG" on the reverse. It is part of the design, not something added. When the dies are over polished, then these letters were removed. Nothing big to me if they are missing. The die was over polished. It was there and it was removed. Kind of like all the other dies that had something polished off, it was there as it was part of the design or mint mark removed.

I think what coop thought you were saying is that they deliberately left the FG off, which is incorrect. It is an error from over polishing, but you are correct in those years as the No FG variety/error has been found on these examples

Over polishing can happen on any year/denomination/mint so I don't find these as a variety as the die was created with the missing devices/mint marks. To me a variety starts out with the die created that way, not altered later on. I know VAMs are not viewed that way. But to me they don't qualify as a variety.

I'm more comfortable call them an over polished die. People collect them, but give me an EDS coin. I''m more satisfied with a better die state, than a worn out die coin.

Just asking...what was the case with the 1922 D penny...was that over polishing or worn die?

1922-D was an over polished die. The Philly mint didn't strike a plain cents that year.
