1977 Jefferson Nickel Multiple Errors

quentin567 New Member United States 3 Posts	Posted 03/12/2017 6:09 pm I found this coin roll hunting. What on earth is wrong with it? It is slightly bigger than a nickel but smaller than a quarter. It is the same thickness as a nickel. It has the obverse and reverse prints on the obverse. It has almost nothing on the back, and no rim. It is the strangest coin I have ever seen. Can someone clarify and verify something, anything, about this coin? I have verified that it is a 1977. Mint mark is unknown. Report this Post to the Staff

keepcalmandcoinon Pillar of the Community United States 865 Posts	Posted 03/12/2017 6:23 pm It was pounded flat by the pressure. Discoloration could be the metal underneathe the plated layer. And it now being bigger than a nickel is from the metal expanding from the damage. Looking at it closer, it looks like it was probably put into a vice. Buddy Rest in Peace United States 7075 Posts	Posted 03/12/2017 6:24 pm It looks like the reverse got sanded or ground down. Probably -- someone tried to make a Magician's coin or create something that could be sold as a mint error. The obverse shows the letters from a cent in reverse which means the impressions came from an existing cent and not a mint die. People do weird stuff to coins. Report this Post to the Staff
