Almost looks like another D which I know is impossible but strange nonetheless. Can't figure it out. I know the pics are not the greatest. Just above the D in GOD. Copper probable erroded away leaving the small hole in your coin. Very common on copper plated cents of the 80s. Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 06/24/2008 10:25 pm Even a pin point break through the copper plating can start the zinc to start working in the air. They look like craters on the moon. They usually get split by striking/damage and start working (Raising) then disintegrate and falling then open the crater below the area affected. foundinrolls Pillar of the Community United States 3507 Posts	Posted 06/28/2008 01:40 am Hi, Coop is right on the money. Your coin displays damage due to a "Spot Of Rot" . It's corrosion. here is your picture enlarged and trimmed and it is easy to see that the depression was formed by a process of corrosion. It is the same type of situation that coop pictured for us.
