Looks to be something embedded? on the surface.
Almost looks like another D which I know is impossible but strange nonetheless. Can't figure it out. I know the pics are not the greatest. Just above the D in GOD. What ever it is, it's raised like a letter.82-Lincoln-Cent---Have-No-Idea? 82-Lincoln-Cent---Have-No-Idea?

Small gas bubble that formed between the copper layer and the zinc core. Copper probable erroded away leaving the small hole in your coin. Very common on copper plated cents of the 80s.

Hi,

I can't tell as the pictures are too small to see the details. It does look like a touch of Post Mint damage above the D so that is the likely cause. It would still be better to see a better picture to be sure.

Thanks,
Bill

Even a pin point break through the copper plating can start the zinc to start working in the air. They look like craters on the moon. They usually get split by striking/damage and start working (Raising) then disintegrate and falling then open the crater below the area affected.

Just part of the deterioration on the zinc planchet coins.

Thanks coop. Can you be positive that is what it is? I know you don't have the coin in hand, but it still looks like something was embedded into the coins surface. Like I said before, it's about the size of the "D".

Hi,

Coop is right on the money. Your coin displays damage due to a "Spot Of Rot" . It's corrosion. here is your picture enlarged and trimmed and it is easy to see that the depression was formed by a process of corrosion.
It is the same type of situation that coop pictured for us.

Thanks,
Bill
