I joined last week and have enjoyed exploring the board but I do have one question. With my 50+ years experience as a world coin dealer, I think I have a lot I can contribute to the general discussion board, especially to new collectors.

However, your rules require 50 posts to participate in the discussion board, which I honestly believe is a bit silly. I'm a member of 3 other boards (all history related) and new members can participate in any forum they want from the get-go.

As it stands now, I have to go through the effort of making 49-50 short posts on various forums to get on the discussion board, which is really where I want to be.

I'll do it if I have to, but I would like a long term member to explain to me why this rule exists.

Thanks!

Hi, Old Reb.

I'm not a long-time member, but I think the opt-in areas are all selling and/or non-coin discussion sections. So, your knowledge can be put to good use right away and I look forward to hearing what you add to the discussions.

The 50 posts only applies to an off-topic discussion Forum. I think you've mis-read/mis-understood that bit.

There have been occurrences of people who are obviously trying to up their number so they can sell. Some even say that is what they are doing.

Those folks reply with "cool" or some similar one word reply just to up their numbers.

The requirements are in place so we don't become a Craig's list.

Yes, there are no limits to the numismatic discussion forums. There are limits to:
- the Off-Topic general discussion thread (which is opt-in, you can't even see it unless you opt-in), where non-coin-related things are discussed.
- the Buy-Sell-Trade section of the forum.
- There are restrictions for new members on posting off-site links, especially if it could in any way be interpreted as "free advertising" for your own products or website.

We welcome any and all participation in the open, numismatic-related areas of the forum, so please feel free to contribute to the discussion in any thread you wish to. However, if the mods and admins think someone is quickly posting fifty "Wow, cool coin" posts just to pump up their thread count so they can join the BST forum to sell stuff, their post count will be manually edited back down again and they are placed on a moderation watch list.

I think all your knowledge about coins can be shared on the forums where you can post.

The General Discussion is where we share pictures of our pets, our cars, or our other collections. It's all kinds of stuff -- none of it has to do with coins.

The Main Coin Forum has topics about insurance, storage, etc.

I hope that helps.

Welcome to the community and I stress community. I also at first said, this is ridiculous 50 posts... but in all fairness I quickly saw the relevance in this rule. It made me see that this is a tight community and one that we can trust when we buy or trade coins from one another. The 50 posts takes an effort but its one that proves to the community your loyalty and your true passion for the industry. The 50 posts also acts as a introduction to who you are and also forces you to find out who we are, thus limiting the possibility of bad apples causing disorder in our community. My thoughts
