Hello. While noodling today I came across two 1984 Mob Of Roos $1 coins in almost perfect condition. Way too good to put back into circulation so they are keepers. Over the tine I have been noodling I have found quite a few 1984 MoR $1 coins in very good condition - many more than any other $1 coin. It just seems strange to me to find so many older coins in such good condition. I guess they were part of a collection and then for whatever reason they entered circulation. Today's coins are also a darker gold than other $1 coins. I tried taking photos but they didn'r do the coins justice but I think you might get an idea of condition and lustre. Anyone care to speculate why there seems to be so many 1984 coins turning up in circulation in such good condition?

Believe it or not, I found another one today in even better condition! Must have come directly from a collection. No marks on it at all!

Perhaps a collector or heir dumped them into circulation and you've been lucky enough to find them. Nice coins. I have a couple of them from 1984 and love seeing them. Sorry for not catching your post sooner.

Yes,friend who manages the local TAB shop keeps coins for me,amazing what turns up.Same with a friend who worked in a Bank.

Being the first year of the Dollar Coin a lot would have been saved in draws/jars etc,not worth much, even in Unc.,just a nice memento.

I'm in Perth and do find almost uncirculated 1984 MOR $1 occasionally.
I doubt they have been sitting in the back of a bank vault all that time, so
one would have to think it is coins being spent by heirs or people facing a hard time.

Im in north Queensland so I think the coins I noodle would come from Cairns? I'm surprised by the condition of these coins considering their age. As it has been suggested, I think that they were probably hoarded when first issued and only recently returned to circulation. I keep the best ones - too good to let go back into circulation to get damaged.
