Hey all!

I'm wondering how true to reality PCGS coin value chart is? I look up a coin graded as 67 for example and it'll list the 67 price and + price (I assume that's the higher number in same bracket?) and let's say the low side is $40 and high side is $100. Then you go on ebay and the same coin (although not graded but going off sellers pics and description) is listed for $1.99!

So where's the market price really?

And how can they make any money selling at 1.99 with free shipping? Lol

Doesn't add up ;)

@cud, when you search ebay for prices, be sure to only look at the prices that the particular coin actually sold for. That should be a relatively accurate market price.

I have Spence! They're selling for less than a dollar right up through. Are these guys purposely flooding the market?

When checking ebay sold/completed sales info, be sure to compare 'apples to apples'. For example, if you're wondering about the value of a MS67 Lincoln Cent graded by PCGS, look only for PCGS graded Lincoln cents of the same year, mint, and grade. Don't compare with a non-graded coin.

You cannot compare a PCGS graded coin price with a raw coin, period.

And I do realize there's quite a few of you here that sell on there and noone wants their trade secret out lol

But it costs 40 bucks to grade a 40 coin so how's that paying the bills? ;)

Price guides are a relic of the past and generally shouldn't be used these days. Ended ebay listings, auction sales, that's where you'll better find the actual market value of a coin.

If ebay sellers are selling slabbed coins for less than what it costs to get coins slabbed, they didn't get them slabbed themselves, some less experienced individual did, and eventually sold it to a dealer. Collectors constantly send coins in for grading that aren't worth doing so. One other act worth mentioning, a dealer sending 1000 coins in for grading, losing on the MS69's and making up for it on the MS70's, or something to the sort.

I generally agree with this. However, sometimes an entity will submit a (large) group of coins in bulk with the expectation that a number of them will come back as winners. The losers are dumped at a loss because the winners covered all costs and netted a nice profit.

I will also add that higher grade coins like MS67 are very difficult to come by. You could go through rolls and rolls of uncirculated coins and not find an MS67.
