In 2010 I was one of the lucky persons who was chosen to purchase the first five of the 5oz. America the Beautiful coins. the collector variety. Thus I bit and bit hard. I now possess a complete set plus several duplicates such as I now have 75 of these. I'm retired and sitting at home most of the time, but I do travel occasionally and am thusly wary of possible theft, though I live in a pretty safe neighborhood. The volume of these 75 prevents me from putting them in my small home safe, and they're also too bulky to put in my safe deposit box at the bank. Being brilliant I decided to safeguard these coins by cleverly placing an Apple Air Tag in one of the 75 boxes, so were they to be purloined I could lead the authorities to their whereabouts. Recently, I began to receive notifications from my Air Tag that it's battery was running low. Unfortunately, despite my "brilliance" I neglected to note which of the 75 boxes contained the airtag. Here's where my "brilliance" kicked in. I brought my postal scale to where I had the coins and began weighing the coins. The ones that was heavier would be the one with the airtag! I weighted about 20 of them and realized this was not going to work as I was getting tenth of an ounce discrepancies on many of the boxes on several of the boxes, so I set ought to open and inspect the boxes, one by one. For those of you still with me the coins come in a box with a sleeve. Once the sleeve is removed you open the box and remove the fake velvet lined plastic piece the coin rests in (with some difficulty). There is space underneath in which I placed the airtag (and taped it down so the crooks wouldn't become suspicious----because, once again, I'm brilliant). After painstakingly searching through 43 of the boxes I found the AirTag! Upon locating it I weighed the box which turned out to be significantly heavier than all of the other coins so I had I just continued on I would have discovered the box the airtag was in without having to open so many. Once I replaced the battery I will this time put a post note on the outside saying something like "anti-theft device inside." Because I'm brilliant.

Howell1018 love the story I think we all can out smart ourselves from time to time . It's also a great that you are big enough to poke fun at yourself and just let it roll of the sleeve. Live and learn.

If you put a post note on ALL of them stating an anti theft device is inside then none of the likely suspects will touch any of them - that's like all my boxes of coins in my basement are labeled "Job Applications" - EDIT: Well at least the device wasn't in the very last box

I wish there was a way to edit these posts, because (as they say in the NFL) upon further review of the original post I found 5 typos/mistakes which as a former elementary school teacher I find unacceptable.

True. Too bad your "very last" wasn't you're "very first".

Fun story, thanks for sharing it. Quote: I will this time put a post note on the outside saying something like "anti-theft device inside." Won't that clue the thieves to search for and remove the AirTag?
