Thanks for the supportive comments. Quick update:

Yes, I was being facitious with the 'no one died' comment. Poorly stated comment on the internet without context. I fully realize the global impact of this horrible disease for 5 years now.

And yes - I've had every vaccine approved in the USA.

I've avoided the Covid until now and was quite taken back by the impact of the effects.

This was not the 'like a cold' version but rather a brutal full body assault - for which I am now emerging.

Paxlovid for 3 days now has helped. I'm feeling like I'm on my way back.

Paxlovid can have some nasty side effects (I'm sure you read the patient advisory), and sometimes it doesn't work. But when it does. WHAM.

It's crazy how Covid can vary so much between individuals. The vaccines knocked me on my butt but when I actually got Covid after avoiding it for 3+ years, it was like a very mild cold. Meanwhile my wife got Covid (she'd also been through the vaccine regimen) and it knocked her down pretty hard for 3 days or so, didn't leave the bed. Her vaccine reactions were more mild than mine which I thought was interesting.

Hope you are well on the road to recovery.

Indeed. I got the first two vaccines. Since then, I have had COVID twice. Neither time required a visit to the doctor. I coughed for a day or two, then recovered relatively quickly. It was like mild bronchitis.

The second shot, however, put me down for days. The first night, I had fever, sweats, chills, excruciating muscle cramps, and the shakes. The shakes were so bad that I couldn't even hold my iPad to look up information on reaction severity to the shot. I am not exaggerating when I say that I was 3x sicker from the shot than either time actually getting COVID.

It's a feisty beast. Nickelsearcher, glad to hear that you are recovering. =)

I got my one time exposure to COVID for Christmas 2023. Ironically, I went out just before Christmas to the local CVS to get the latest vaccine - my only outing - and got it while getting vaccinated. I was stupid and didn't wear a mask that one and only time.

Similar experience to you Nick. Took two days to find a doctor in at the holiday to get the Paxlovid, but once I had it I got better fast. Still was positive for 6 days or more.

Hope everything goes well for you which I am certain will.Great Numismatists have strong will. You must live in New York. That is where my sister and her family lives. Talk about covid, every time I talk to her on the phone someone in the family or friends have covid. Last year alone her family and friends and the grand children all had covid. Many of her friends on the golf course had it and the gym her husband goes to, al ot had covid. When I was going to visit her year and a half ago they all had covid. They should rename the state NYcovid. Well anyway get better so you can get back to coins.

nickelsearcher, how are you doing? Any long term effects? I don't usually fair too much into these kinds of topics, but bare with me. I have a bit of a story.

Back in early 2020, around beginning of April, my wife caught a horrible case of COVID. I won't ever forget the experience. My son was two years old. Me and my wife both work at the same department in a regional hospital chain. She started experiencing mild symptoms at first and due to a lack of testing materials available, she couldn't get tested. She obviously didn't go to work. I also neglected to go to work, as I refused to leave her side. Well, through the period of a week, she got worse and worse. At this point, was basically the sickest I had ever seen her. She basically couldn't get out of bed, had no appetite, and felt like death.

I finally out of frustration found somewhere that would supposedly test her because I was really scared that she wasn't going to survive this. Her oxygen had declined into the 80's range and I was told to immediately take her to the hospital. She tested positive for COVID in the hospital. I was out at this point, as I had never seen her that sick before. I was also afraid I was going to get sick, and potentially as sick as her. However, both me and my son never got sick somehow, despite being around her this whole time. We both tested negative. I still remember the horrible cries from my son being held down as they jammed the thing in his nose to test him. My son is 7 now.

She was sent home on oxygen and out of fear and cautiousness, still quarantined to the bedroom as I cared for our son. She got better. This was a hard time and I slept on the floor in our living room for about 2-3 weeks. Her strength was greatly weakened during all this and she had some weird after effects for quite awhile. Her hair fell out, and also weird heart palpitations. In the end of 2020, we were eligible for the COVID vaccine due to working in health care and we both gladly took it, as we never wanted to experience anything like this ever again. Around two years later, I caught COVID and she also caught it again. However, this time around was a lot different and didn't require a doctor or hospitalization. I basically felt really bad for a day or two, then felt like I had an annoying cold. My son also got sick and puked for like a day.

Anyways, just sharing my own disaster story with COVID! Hope you are doing good!
