Spence Moderator United States 34491 Posts	Posted 03/04/2026 10:00 pm I'm in the process of assessing a neighbor's collection that he inherited from his father. All coins are raw as this was assembled back in the 1960s or so. My photo set up isn't great, especially for shiny, uncirculated coins so these are the best that I can do. I'm interested in opinions from the hive here as to grade as well as any potential issues which might result in a details designation should he send them in for slabbing. Thx! panzaldi Bedrock of the Community United States 18783 Posts	Posted 03/05/2026 11:42 am after seeing you 09S and this coin it confirms my suspicion, since they both came from the same source, that the coins have been cleaned in the past. they have a similar look to the surfaces which typically would not happen. that being said, I think the obv is closer to VG8 the rev VG10. looking at the coin it totality, sections of the rims are now blended into the fields on both sides. I think they would net the coin at VG8 the coin is another candidate for verdicare to help preserve it. there is a good chance the coin would not slab straight. that being said a straight VG8 is in the $850-900 range. this one may be worth the risk to send it in. if you decide to do that I would not touch it and I would look at conservation. even if it detailed the value would be there and with the possibility of VG10 it makes it more palatable Report this Post to the Staff
