Series 1914 $50 Federal Reserve Note (St. Louis)

This year I was planning to focus exclusively on high end key date coins, but the regular currency dealer I visit every year happened to have this beauty in a grade I could live with and at a price I could afford, so I snapped it up: I now have an almost complete type set of the Series 1914 Federal Reserve Note in both red and blue seal, only missing the rather pricey $100 red seal. Finding one of those in nice condition would probably blow my entire coin show budget, but it's certainly something to look forward to someday. In fact, the spectacular artwork on the reverses is what first got me interested in collecting large notes in the first place. The "educational" series are obviously the highlight, but all of them have amazing artwork. My only regret is that it has been fiendishly hard to track down the title and painter of many of the vignettes. Often, the most I can find is a general description, but no further details. Were they all created specifically for the bills upon which they are displayed, or were they previously created works of art that the Bureau of Engraving and Printing merely selected to be included?
