The biggest mistake I've made in the hobby is collecting Roosevelts instead of Mercury dimes when I got into collecting. That's not to say I didn't buy any Mercury dimes, in fact I have a well circulated collection. However I never really got into high grade examples. Anyway curiosity got the best of me and I'm now on a journey to find better grade teens and twenties branch mint coins with close to FB. I also came across a circulated 36-s overdate recently. Anyway I'm having a lot of fun hunting for older Mercury dimes. I don't think I'll purchase any 1940s coins unless I find a cool variety though as certified seems like a waste (I know, you may argue having any certified is a waste). I love the design of the Mercury dime and some of the early dates are MUCH more challenging than I could have imagined so this should be fun.. For any collectors out there - What did you look for when buying certified Mercury dimes? Did you go for FB? Would love to see any favorites from your collection too! Edited by LibertyEagle20

Uhh  that's a new one on me; never heard of that "overdate", but after looking up a tad more, I saw an older 2018 thread mentioned one of those but results came back inconclusive at best? My only slabbed and certified Merc dime is a 1916-D in the opposite grade of NS, a low-ball PCGS AG-3 with a green bean CAC sticker.  |

Both my Roosevelt and Mercury dime sets are in Dansco albums, so nothing certified for me.  Nice examples in this topic though! |
